Different types of flow:
* Steady flow: If flow properties at a point in a flow fluid don’t vary with time that flow is known as steady flow.
Flow properties are γ,ρ,P,T
* Unsteady flow: If flow properties at a point in a flow fluid don’t vary with time that flow is known as steady flow.
* Uniform flow: If the flow velocity of the flow is constant across the flow direction, then the flow is called uniform flow.
* Non-uniform flow: If the flow velocity of the flow is not constant across the flow direction, then the flow is called non-uniform flow.
* Incompressible flow: If the density variation is negligible, then the flow is called incompressible flow. Most of the liquids are considered as Incompressible flow.
* Compressible flow: If the density variation is not negligible, then the flow is called incompressible flow. Most of the gases are considered as compressible flow.
* Laminar flow: If the paths of fluid particle of a flow don’t cross each other, then the flow is called laminar flow. This flow is characterized by smooth motion.
A dimensionless number, called Reynolds number is used to determine the type of flow.
Now,
Re = ρνD/μ
For pipe flow, if Re<2300, then the flow is laminar
Where,
Re = Reynolds number
ρ = Density of fluid
ν = Viscosity of fluid
D = Diameter of pipe
µ =Viscosity of fluid
* Turbulent flow:
If the paths of fluid particle of a flow cross each other, then the flow is called laminar flow. This flow is characterized by rough motion.
